Shetland Congress (Cloverdale, IN, July 28-August 1): After being the high-point Pony at the 2008 Shetland Congress, D&S Double Dutch Chocolate returned to the prestigious national event to claim three National championships and four Reserve National titles. Dutch's wins came in Classic Amateur Roadster, Open Hunter and Adult Jumper classes. Sawyer Sansevere, age 11, guided Dutch to the Open Hunter crown, making him the youngest winner of an Open class at the 2009 Shetland Congress. Meantime, D&S Excuse My French also had a nice showing, winning Amateur Jumper and collecting Reserve National titles in Classic Open Roadster, Amateur Roadster and Adult Jumper. Emerald Glenn Noah, on loan from Jackie Tyler, was the unaminous Grand National Champion in Classic Open Roadster Over with Bob Sansevere driving. Noah and Bob also won Classic Open Roadster Over and Noah was the Reserve National champion in a Liberty class that included 26 other ponies. Iowa Miniature Horse Club Show (Des Moines, IA, July 25-26): Classique's Phantom Gold was outstanding, winning in Roadster and Pleasure driving classes and was his usual outstanding self in Jumper at a show that included a scaled-down roster of Enchanted Hollow minis. The show was primarily an opportunity to qualify horses for AMHR Nationals.

Minnesota Miniature Horse Club Show (Winona, MN, July 3-4): D&S Double Dutch Chocolate was outstanding, winning the Gelding Halter Over Senior and Grand Championships under all three judges and then sweeping to three wins in Country Pleasure Stakes. In just four shows in 2009, Dutch reached Hall of Fame status in Hunter and Liberty, giving him Hall of Fame status in five classes -- Halter, Country Pleasure, Roadster, Hunter and Liberty. (Photo at left shows Dutch after winning the Youth Country Pleasure class at the 2008 Shetland Congress. Dutch was the High-Point Pony at the '08 Congress.) D&S Excuse My French won two of three Roadster Stakes first-place ribbons in the Over division at the Minnesota Miniature Horse Club show, while another Enchanted Hollow mini, Whispering Hill Farm Magician, won the other Stakes ribbon. Magic also won Adult Jumper. Classique's Phantom Gold took all three Roadster Stakes wins, as well as Youth Jumper and two of three Liberty blue ribbons. Festervans Bodaous won Adult Jumper with Enchanted Hollow co-founder Mary Sansevere. Brewers Replica Royale picked up several wins in Country Pleasure Under, a large class in which Bodie also had placings. Meantime, Emerald Glenn Noah, on loan from Jackie and Stuff Tyler, won Classic Open Roadster and Roadster Stakes and his Classic Halter classes. Samantha Sansevere was the overall high-point youth, and Mary Sansevere was the high-point amateur.

Area VI National Show (Des Moines, IA, June 26-27): Classique's Phantom Gold continued an exceptional show season, winning all four Roadster Under races, including Stakes, and taking the Liberty class as well as Amateur Jumper. D&S Double Dutch Chocolate won every Halter class he entered in Gelding Over, including the Grand Championship. Dutch also had three wins in Hunter classes, and captured a highly competitive Adult Jumper Over class. Bertrand's Irish Lad, in his return to the show ring after a layoff of several years, had the fastest overall time in the Jumper classes, winning with Taylor Prince in Youth Jumper Over. (The jump course was the same for all ages.) Sawyer Sansevere was the Youth Jumper Under winner with Festervan's Bodaous, the mini his sister, Samantha, guided to a win in Youth Obstacle Under.  Emerald Glenn Noah, on loan from Jackie and Stuff Tyler, won Classic Liberty in the Shetland division and swept to wins in Classic Open Roadster, Classic Youth Roadster and Classic Roadster Stakes. New Image Miniature and Shetland Show (Des Moines, IA, June 19-21): Classique's Phantom Gold continued performing at a high level at the four-judge show, sweeping Liberty Under, winning Adult and Youth Jumper with the two fastest times of all jump classes and taking three of four Grands in Roadster Stakes. (Phantom is shown in photo at right doing the trot that helped him win Liberty. Photo is courtesy of Karen Kennedy and Icon Studios Equine Photography.) D&S Double Dutch Chocolate also was outstanding at the New Image show, winning three Grands in Country Pleasure Stakes Over and in Gelding Halter Over while also capturing wins in Hunter, Jumper and Liberty classes. Shane, age 3, also had two wins in Youth Halter with Dutch, while Spencer, age 7, won a couple of blue ribbons in Halter Under with Brewers Replica Royale. Spencer also won a blue ribbon in Youth Pleasure Driving Over with Mini Bucks Pure Nitro, driving solo for the first time. (Spencer has won four AMHR Nationals titles in driving classes in the 7-Under division, with his mother, Mary, in the cart.) Sawyer, age 11, had a great show, winning a Grand in Roadster Stakes Over with Whispering Hill Farm Magician and picking up wins in several driving classes. Samantha, age 14, had the fastest Jumper time with Phantom on a course that was set up the same for every age group.

South Dakota Miniature Horse Club Alliance (Sioux Falls, S.D., May 15-16): In his first show after winning six national titles at the 2008 AMHR Nationals, Classique's Phantom Gold swept the Hunter and Jumper classes and claimed two first-place finishes under three judges in a highly competitive Liberty class. Phantom also excelled in driving classes. Whispering Hill Farm Magician won Adult Jumper, while Quail Creek's Rumorhasit won in youth Hunter and Jumper. D&S Double Dutch Chocolate was outstanding in Hunter and Jumper and was awarded all three first-place ribbons in Liberty Over. Dutch also was impressive in Country Pleasure and Roadster classes. Meantime, in his first-ever AMHR event, 3-year-old Shane had a second-place finish and two top five finishes in Youth Halter with Phantom; the class had seven minis and included three teen-age exhibitors. With his nine-months pregant mom, Mary, in the ring with him, 7-year-old Spencer helped Phantom and Dutch claim five of the six first-place ribbons in the Liberty Under and Over classes.
